How Green is our Lives?

In nowadays not a lot of people recycled and do not know that this can affect our lives and the lives of their long-term descendants. I think that states should be even more aware of the problems of pollution since they work as a big company to generate money with the tax of the population and they don’t care about the environment. I think that a large part of the tax revenues should be dedicated to the sustainability of the environment and educating the population since adolescence.

I come from an island in the centre of the Mediterranean called Mallorca. The people who live there are very careful with the environment since the island is a great economic engine and is what sustains our lives thanks to tourism. I always have a bicycle for when I need to go to nearby places, before I used to go by bike to work but due to the circumstances of life I changed my job and now I have to take the car since there is no public transport that goes where my company is.

I consider it a lack of morality that the European Union obliges the companies of large supermarkets to sell fruits and vegetables wrapped in a plastic bag with an expiration date, this leads the consumer to believe that they will only be suitable for consumption to date. This creates an environment of consumerism among the population increasing pollution. Given my economic acquisition it is impossible for me to buy in small local markets because the states give millionaire subsidies to large agricultural companies making the prices of their products very economical.

I consider myself a responsible person with the environment, in my daily life I recycle, always throw the waste that I generate on the street in the nearest bin or wait to get home. When I go to work or I’m not at home I turn off all the lights and appliances, or take baths, I only shower, I do not buy unnecessary electronic products and I reduce my organic waste to the maximum. But what is the use if millions of people and large companies do not they do it?

In my opinion, I think that states should educate the population from adolescence, because over time these people will be those who occupy high positions in large companies and governments and thus will be aware of not making decisions that put our planet and the planet at risk and the life of our successors.
