Hardware that enable connection to the internet

Network Interface Card (NIC): is a hardware device that is used to connect a computer to an Internet network Ethernet cable or wireless connection. This hardware device can come already embedded in the motherboard itself or can be obtained separately and installed on the motherboard.

Ethernet – RJ45: the cable used to connect various Internet devices through their NIC cards. Depending on the quality and type, the network cables help us know the speeds that can be obtained.

Router: is a hardware device that allows the connection of networks between them. A router allows that in a house or small office several computers take advantage of the same Internet connection and is the one that decides which is the best route that a data package should take to reach its destination.

Switch: A switch is an intelligent device that allows the interconnection of computer networks, this switch has the ability to learn and store network addresses of devices reachable to transmit the data directly to the target device making a network faster and more efficient.

Wi-Fi is a wireless communication technology most used in home networks or hotspots. Is based on a wireless NIC that facilitates the transmission of data through radiofrequency that operates in the band of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and although the data transmission rates are inferior to those of cable, but is a good solution to connect devices of Wireless.

When we buy some new hardware devices come with software that contains the drivers that will have to be installed for the correct use of the device in our computer. Some operating systems have the facility to recognize these devices without the need for additional software installation these devices are plug and play.
