The advantages and disadvantages of using cookies on web pages

A computer cookie is a text file that is generated when you enter a web page and it is installed in your browser to allow faster and easier navigation within a web page. They are also capable of remembering customs information about your navigation, such as memorizing your passwords when you have logged in to a website, so that when you access the page again, you do not have to re-enter your username and password. And of course, it does not miss a detail of your browsing preferences. For example, if you visit a trading site and have browsed through certain articles, the site will offer recommendations based on recent searches by a user. Now the E.U. from April 1, 2012 requires the owners of these to report clearly and obtain consent for the use of this type of technology on the websites.

Advantage

Fast, simple and personalized navigation: they can save the configuration options that you have in a website and show them the next time you access, avoiding the need to configure it again.
They are also useful while you shop online. If any problem prevents you from completing the purchase process, your own cookies will help you remember the things you had in the cart, preventing you from having to search for the products again.

Disadvantages

The fundamental problem with cookies is that they are capable of storing any type of information and, therefore, protecting your privacy becomes a complicated task. This means that the information they store can be used by cybercriminals for illegal purposes.
In addition, they can be created to detect the pages you visit during your Internet browsing, in this way, even if they do not have your personal data, thanks to your browsing guidelines you can deduce if you are male, female, young, adult and create a profile of user so that companies can offer products that they think are of your interest while browsing or to create advertising campaigns.
