Ways in which encryption helps confidentiality

confidentiality

Nowadays, confidentiality plays an important role. Some people may feel that sending information across the Internet is unsafe.  However, consider traditional transactions in which consumers give their credit cards to waiters in restaurants, or to various sales companies over the phone.  Web transactions are at least as secure as traditional transactions due to the various encryption methods that websites can employ.

Encryption is used to make online transmission of sensitive data more secure.  This involves the process of converting data into unreadable form of text.  It is the primary means of ensuring data security and privacy whilst browsing online.

As a user’s data is stored in digital format on computers and servers around the world, it is important to maintain data confidentiality, integrity and theft of information. For this there are several methods that can be implemented.

To make secure online data transmissions much safer, encryption is used by transforming the data into illegible text. Encryption is the primary means of privacy for sending data online.

Confidentiality

The confidentiality of the data is done to ensure that certain confidential information does not reach the inadequate people and ensure that only the owners of such information can access them, that is why it is important to restrict access to encrypt this information, it is essential to use Encryption of the data as it helps to ensure that the data remains confidential.

Encryption

Encryption can be used to guarantee the integrity of the data, by using encryption methods it is ensured that the data can’t be altered. Integrity implies maintaining the integrity of the user data without being altered from its creation to its destruction. The integrity of the data implies that it must not be complete when transmitted through the systems. Measures must be taken so that unauthorized persons can not obtain them.

Non Repudiation

Non-repudiation (in terms of online security) is the ability to demonstrate that a transaction has taken place, this is used by the police to track fraud. A digital signature is used to prove that a transaction has been made, it is like an electronic signature that identifies the source of a message and its content. Digital signatures do not encrypt the data, therefore they do not provide confidentiality but they verify the integrity of the data and the identity of the sender. Sending data with a digital signature shows that the message was sent and received. No party can ‘repudiate’ the transaction.
